How To Prepare A Winning Fantasy Football Lineup Each Week

I want to start by stating that I ONLY use the ESPN fantasy app for my leagues. I am in a single PPR(point per reception). This is the most common format, and other apps use the same scoring, so it shouldn't matter what platform you use.

I will be talking about several aspects to alter and set your lineup for each week. It is the most important thing to be successful, but it can also be stressful. If you're tired of second-guessing your decisions or playing the wrong guy, this post should help you make smarter, more calculated decisions.

This is an example of one of my lineups in one of my leagues.
Step One: With week one being done, it is time to get ready for next week. The first thing I like to do is check if any of my players were injured and are either out for at least a week or are questionable to play next week. Initial reports come out every Tuesday and then Friday and the final injury report is Sunday morning.
Step Two: Check if you have any players playing Thursday, as you have to set those in before the game starts. Don't blindly follow the projections that are given on the app. For example, I started AJ Brown last week, he was projected 17 points and ended up getting 1.9. Anything can happen in the NFL. You must look at how opposing defenses perform against certain positions. For example, if one of your running backs is playing the top run defense, you might want to consider playing someone else.
Step Three: The waiver wire is your best friend and the key to success. Each week, check for players (that no one currently has on their team) who performed well or better than expected. Another tip for waiver pick-ups is if the starting position player got injured, it's worth it to pick up his backup.
Step Four: Most leagues have a "flex" position, which means you can play either a RB, WR, or TE. Putting players who play Sunday night or Monday night instead of an earlier game gives you more flexibility to change them out in case of unexpected news or injuries.
Step Five: Trust your research and your gut. After looking at matchups, injuries, news, and expert advice, make your decisions and stick with them, overthinking can sometimes lead to poor last-minute swaps. There will be times when an expert is wrong or you choose the wrong guy but more often than not, you will choose the right guy.
Final Thoughts: Setting your lineup doesn't always have to feel like a gamble. Most of the time, you're only switching out 1-3 guys, so with preparation and strategy, you can make well-informed choices each week.
